Google Jamboard is no longer available. Its app ended on December 31, 2024, so the former “Start a new whiteboard” instructions for Jamboard in Google Meet no longer describe a working workflow. Google’s official shutdown announcement explains the change.
What Happened to Jamboard in Google Meet?
Jamboard was Google’s shared drawing and sticky-note application. It also ran on a dedicated whiteboard device. The app became view-only in October 2024 and ended in December 2024. A historical hardware price is therefore not a price for a service you can choose today.
Google named FigJam, Lucidspark, and Miro as partner alternatives for whiteboarding with Google Workspace. Choose a supported product according to your school or organization’s account policies and the work you need to do.
How to Use a Whiteboard During a Google Meet Call
- Create a board in your chosen whiteboard application before the call.
- Set viewing or editing permissions for the attendees.
- Paste the board link into the meeting chat so participants can open it in their browsers.
- Use Google Meet’s presentation controls to show the board while you explain it.
- Let collaborators add ideas in their own board tabs, then save or export the result.
Screen sharing displays your view of the board. It does not give attendees editing access; that comes from the whiteboard’s own sharing settings.

Can You Recover or Import Old Jamboard Work?
The Jamboard app is closed, so instructions to open a jam and export it from the app are obsolete. Look for PDF or image copies that you or your organization saved earlier. An administrator may be able to help locate retained files, but a new whiteboard cannot restore content that was never retained.
A saved PDF or image can serve as a visual reference. It is not the same as an editable jam: individual sticky notes, shapes, comments, and history do not automatically return. Recreate the parts that your team needs to edit and keep the original export as a reference.
